The Third Man
We were staying at a cabin near Blowing Rock. On a cool rainy morning I walked along an old road bed nearby, beneath dripping hemlocks. As I went deeper into the forest, I had a strong feeling that someone was watching me. I looked over my shoulder, and then up the wooded hillside. I saw nothing other than a nuthatch tapping on the trunk of a tree.
